Service Description
COURSE OBJECTIVES 1. Understanding Drowning: • Define drowning and differentiate it from near-drowning and secondary drowning. • Describe the epidemiology and demographics of drowning incidents globally and locally. 2. Mechanisms and Pathophysiology: • Explain the physiological processes involved in drowning, including hypoxia, aspiration of water, and complications such as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). 3. Immediate Response and Rescue Techniques: • Outline the steps in the chain of survival for drowning victims, including recognition, activation of emergency response, rescue, resuscitation, and advanced care. • Demonstrate effective water rescue techniques and basic life support (BLS) for drowning victims. 4.Medical Assessment and Management: • Describe the initial assessment and triage of drowning victims, including ABCDE approach (Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure/Environment). • Discuss specific medical interventions for drowning-related complications, such as hypothermia, aspiration pneumonia, and neurological sequelae. 5.Post-Rescue Care and Rehabilitation: • Outline the post-rescue management of drowning victims, including monitoring for complications and initiating rehabilitation as needed. • Discuss the psychological support needed for survivors and families affected by drowning incidents.
