Understand Drowning and Its Classification – Define drowning and distinguish it from near-drowning and secondary drowning, while also exploring the global and local epidemiology of drowning incidents. Explore the Mechanisms and Pathophysiology of Drowning – Explain the physiological processes involved in drowning, including hypoxia, water aspiration, and complications like acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Learn Immediate Response and Rescue Techniques – Outline the chain of survival for drowning victims, covering recognition, emergency response activation, rescue procedures, and resuscitation, while demonstrating effective water rescue techniques and basic life support (BLS). Conduct Medical Assessment and Management for Drowning Victims – Describe the initial assessment and triage of drowning victims using the ABCDE approach, and discuss specific interventions for complications such as hypothermia, aspiration pneumonia, and neurological effects. Implement Post-Rescue Care and Rehabilitation – Outline the post-rescue management of drowning victims, including monitoring for complications, and initiating rehabilitation strategies, while addressing psychological support for survivors and families.
